Air conditioning is a necessity in Dallas, Texas. That’s why you must schedule preventive air conditioner maintenance at least once per year. But no matter how well you take care of your AC system, some issues are inevitable. Here are three air conditioner repairs that you should never put off:
Refrigerant Leak
Refrigerant is the chemical that cools the air within your AC system. It’s essential to your air conditioner’s operation. If your home isn’t cooling properly, it might be because there isn’t enough refrigerant in your air conditioner. In most cases, a low level of refrigerant indicates a leak. Because this chemical can be harmful to both human health and the environment, a qualified service technician must find, fix and test the leak.
Fan Problems
There are two fans in your air conditioner. One blows indoor air over the system’s evaporator coil, which absorbs moisture from the stream of air. The other blows air over the outdoor unit’s condenser, which rejects the heat from the house and changes the state of the refrigerant from a hot gas to a liquid.
If either fan starts malfunctioning, you’ll notice poor airflow. Most fan problems stem from a faulty motor, worn belts, too much dirt or a lack of lubrication. If you ignore this problem, it can lead to compressor failure, which is usually a death sentence for your AC system.
Sensor Issues
Air conditioning systems contain a thermostat sensor that sits behind the control panel. It measures the temperature of the air flowing through the evaporator coil. If something knocks the sensor out of position, your air conditioner will continuously cycle and act erratically. As a result, it can drive up your cooling costs. The sensor should sit near the coil without touching it. A service technician can adjust it to ensure it’s sitting in the right place.
